25/08 Weekly Update

Winchester City Neighbourhood Policing Team Weekly Update

With the bank holiday out of the way, our team have been working relentlessly on our week of day shifts catching up with the volume crime and incidents that have come in over the past week.

- PC Andrews and PC Baldwin have been busy conducting enquiries and putting together a case file for a prolific offender who was outstanding for a number of shopliftings and a breach of restraining order. PS Keen stopped the male on the High Street where he was swiftly arrested and taken to court. This male has since been handed a 12 week custodial sentence for those offences.

- Whilst out on patrol, PCSO Puntis was made aware of a shoplifting near to her location. An area search was conducted where the suspect was located and stopped. All goods have been recovered and returned to the shop, and the suspect is under investigation for this.

- PC Andrews and PCSO Leung conducted enquiries in the Badger Farm area following a report of an attempt burglary. This is still under investigation, however, we would like to use this opportunity to offer some crime prevention advice:

1. Add as many layers of security to make accessing your home more difficult. This could include installing CCTV or video doorbells – which can then be used for evidential purposes in the event of a crime.

2. A house that appears occupied is less likely to be targeted by burglars, installing light switch timers inside the house can help make it appear occupied. Likewise, dusk to dawn or sensor lighting to the front and rear of your home can help deter potential thieves.

3. Keep high value, easily portable jewellery and equipment from being visible through a window and don’t forget to register them at https://orlo.uk/PCWhw

- PCSO Window attended the All Access Stanmore Event which is a yearly community event held by the Winchester City Council. This event gives local residents an opportunity to speak with local services around any concerns that they may have, as well as giving the children a chance to have a tour of one of our Police cars!

- A few of our officers have also been busy assisting our response colleagues with live 999 incidents.

We are now off over the weekend to rest up in time for the late shifts next week!
